Choosing the Perfect Urn

If you have decided on cremation for your loved one, you will wish to choose a cremation urn to hold the ashes. The urn can be housed in a niche or columbarium, buried, or kept in the home. If you wish, you may scatter some of the ashes and keep some.  In addition to the ashes, the urn can hold a special memento of your loved one such as a lock of hair, a photograph, a piece of jewelry or something else special to your family.

The urns pictured here are representative of the cremation urns that are available on hand in Dee Cox's studio. All of the urns are one-of-a-kind and have a decorative motif of  guardian and protective spirits. They are hand built using high-fire stoneware clay and may be painted or glazed. They will stand up to the elements if you wish to put them outside or hang them in a tree.

Finding just the perfect receptacle for your loved one’s cremains can be challenging if you wish to express an aspect of his or her personality in the cremation urn. Custom orders are most welcome, but because the clay must be fired, it will take some time for you to receive your custom-made urn.

Cost of the urns ranges from $50-$400, depending on the complexity of the design. These urns are also appropriate for the ashes of animal companions.

You may call Dee Cox at 520-297-5248 for an appointment to visit her studio to select an urn or e-mail her at coxfamily33@msn.com.
